Going Rural

By Vikki  //  Millennial Things, Personal Space  //  4 Comments

I was out Friday night and came back, Saturday noon.  I was out with some friends in San Juan, Batangas for an overnight swim.  I rarely go out of town so I really took the opportunity to get away from the city to relax.  In the morning, we went to the farm where we happily picked guavas and got a bag of green mangoes.  Sometimes, I miss the simple life in the province.  I have actually tried to live in the province for 3 years as a kid.  The thought of settling down in the province has hit me.  Can I really live in the province?  There are a couple of pre-requisites before I consider.  My must haves?

  • internet (I can’t go through a day without checking my email. I also need this for my freelance work.)
  • cable TV (The life in the province is boring.  Everyone needs entertainment.)
  • a car (To get around without having to take public transportation.)
  • a work from home job (I need to be productive and I gotta earn money.)
  • my own house (of course!)

And oh, my boyfriend (hopefully he’d be my hubby when I decide to relocate to a rural area), too.  At first, I thought I couldn’t possibly live in the province.  But if I had these, I know I will survive.

  • there are areas in Batangas that are actually super urbanized already. but San Juan, yeah, it still kinda shitty there (for someone who manages a site/blog). Excuse my french. lol.

  • My mom is giving me a portion of the land she inherited and I’m really thinking of building a house around Q4 this year. It’s somewhere in Cuenca. It’s a nice place but kinda creepy when the night falls. My next neighbor is about 2km away.

  • I love rural area coz I have nothing to do in the city anyway except working. I dont like nigh life so much and much more the chaoes. I love serenity and peace of mind in some quiet place but I always end up urban than rural. ^^

  • I totally agree with you. Living in the rural areas is a dream. :) I just hope that everyone’s got enough resources to settle in that kind of place.
